Emerging from the earth, Casa Magmol is inspired by the image of a quarry, conceived as an architectural form carved with the strength and solidity of rock. Set within challenging terrain, the project addresses complex site conditions through architecture that redefines perception and experience.
One of the key design decisions is the lateral entrance, which completely transforms the way the house is approached. From the beginning, the intention was to conceal vehicles, ensuring they would not take center stage. This strategy allows visitors to encounter the true protagonist of the project: the composition and interaction of architectural volumes.
The first impression is deliberate. Rather than expressing itself solely as a conventional home, the residence seeks to evoke the character of a quarry, recalling imposing geometric forms shaped by human intervention. The architecture references massive volumes eroded to extract material, emphasizing strength, weight, and presence.
As the spatial journey continues, the experience evolves into a warm and inviting environment enriched with carefully considered details. Views from different points within the house consistently reference quarry-like forms. The pool area reinforces this concept, presenting itself as a quarry that has been flooded, integrating water as an essential element within the architectural composition.
On the ground floor, the interior layout is organized to orient spaces toward the garden, strengthening the relationship between interior and exterior. On the upper floor, the family room functions as a vestibule, connecting all rooms and serving as a central distribution space.
Vertical circulation is resolved through a split staircase, with one direction leading to the family room and the other to a study and the master bathroom. This configuration adds spatial versatility while providing privacy to the master bedroom access.
The upper-floor volume is expressed as a monumental form defined by irregular quarry-like geometries, generating a stone-like presence that contrasts with the glass base housing the social areas on the ground floor. Views are carefully controlled, directing sightlines toward selected areas and allowing light, shadows, and sky to enter the interior. Casa Magmol proposes an architectural experience where space is revealed gradually, forming a cohesive narrative rooted in the nature of the site.
