This project is situated in one suburban area of Porto, were there isn´t a strong identity.
The client premises for the Crematorium and Mortuary Houses was a building that was flexible and adaptable to different religious ceremonies.
My principal idea for the Crematorium and Mortuary Houses was to develop a reference building that would persuade people to have a more positive and natural atittude towards a hard happening in life; death. A building inspired on organic and natural forms that express the sense of cycles and transitions in Nature. It doesn´t have religious symbols but a strong symbology.
It is not closed to the city. The buildings adapts to the space but it doesn´t follows references of the area.
It is like a cell that is implanted in the center of the space and is connected to the territory through 3 paths.
This paths break and deform the skin of the cell. She moves and stabilizes when she finds equilibrium. The center of the cell is still a magnetic point of the whole.
The walls concave and convex, fragmented in precise points define exterior, interior and transition spaces.
