Located in the heart of Ajman, UAE, this library project draws inspiration from the region’s rocky terrain and rich من جد وجد و“ cultural heritage. Rooted in the Arabic proverb He who strives will succeed, and he who sows“( ”من زرع حصد will reap”), the design reflects themes of perseverance and growth.
Shaped like a carved rock, the building symbolizes human effort and the transformative power of knowledge. Public spaces—an exhibition area, café, lecture hall, and multipurpose room—are placed on the ground floor for accessibility. A glass atrium anchors the design, connecting the library’s two main zones and allowing sunlight to flood the reception through visible bridging pathways.
Circulation mimics natural stone fissures, guiding visitors through angular paths that reinforce the carving metaphor. A skylit elevator serves as the vertical spine, offering sky views that evoke enlightenment and progress. As users ascend, spaces shift from public zones to focused study areas like computer labs and quiet rooms.
The stone-like façade, marked by intentional fissures, echoes Ajman’s geological identity while representing the pursuit of knowledge. The library stands as a symbol of perseverance—blending culture, nature, and innovation to inspire learning and growth.
The design is organized around two primary masses, interconnected by a series of bridges that create both physical and visual links between them. Each mass is anchored by its own vertical circulation core, strategically placed to facilitate seamless movement across levels. This organizational approach fosters a sense of openness and interaction, enhancing the overall spatial experience.
