Design intent: This monument is to commemorate the 152 souls that departed to the heavens from the space between earth and sky.
Architecture is a language of geometry and numbers. The geometry of the design is derived from the number 152, its sum 8 and minimum divisible number 19 which is considered to be a mystical Quran number.
Layout plan: The form of pathway in layout plan is derived from the digit ‘8’. Total length of pathway is 152’ which culminates abruptly as unfinished journey. 152 plants are planted at the site which will give a new beginning to the 152 lives. These trees will always remind the visitors of those 152 souls.
Monument wall: The floating featured wall has a dynamic shape derived from an airplane’s wing. Names of all martyrs are engraved on black granite in the exact seating order of the ill-fated flight. The shiny granite surface reflects the reader so that one can relate the self while reading the names.
Color : At that incident three colors were there, GRAY clouds, GREEN plants which turned BLACK. The entire monument only incorporates these three colors freezing the instant of the incident.
The black is only used in monument wall here but it is extensively used in the ‘graves of remains’ setup forming a relation between two places.
