Center for Women and Children
Bangasawe, Tuburam, Cebu, Philippines
IMQHM Sisters dedicate themselves in the rescue of prostitute and their children which they call “client”. The Center rehabilitates and trains their clients in preparation to their assimilation to society. It is a holistic approach in healing which is spiritual, physical, and mental. The Center is located on a hill bounded by farm lands of coconut and corn. Unfortunately last August 9, 2011 the Center was gutted down by fire, luckily all 25 clients and 2 sisters were able to escape unharmed.
The Project:
Erection of a new Center for Women and Children exactly on the same site and using whatever that can be salvaged from the debris due to financial constraint. We envision a sustainable structure and recycling some of steel trusses and reusing reinforced concrete columns that were partially damaged by reinforcing the structure.
The Challenge: To design and plan a center that uses whatever building material that can be salvaged to bring down the cost. To design a structure that is sensitive to the environment with regards to waste management and natural ventilation. The most important of all is to design a secure structure whose character is to be conducive to healing, rehabilitation and learning. A character signified by calmness and serenity.
