The requirement to create a contemporary community market comprising of various system of spaces reflecting individual activities, and also catering the daily needs of the neighborhood living and fulfilling their requirement.
This is the kind of project that makes one realize just how rarely a market does much for the happiness and well-being of a community. The architecture here shall appear relaxed and unaffected, but in fact richly rewards its users, with a skillful and subtle combination of practicality and pleasure.
he important aspect of the Community Market is the way one experiences the integration of the external and internal spaces and also the internal connectivity between the various spaces through fenestrations and different levels. Situations are created by the play of light through large openings, and vast openness where one can record the time of the day, which add to the quality of space. These experiences are reinforced by the use of materials and surface treatments. Externally the block has aggregate plaster and paint creating different textures. Grey and White colors have been used to define various activities.
The building was to address as per the climatic conditions of Kolkata.
The building was further articulated by addition and subtraction of volumes, to create enclosures and suggest movement based on the requirements of privacy in each of the spaces. The internal spaces are structured to be continuous, free flowing along the horizontal plane as well as the vertical plane knitting the block in three dimensions.
Playful, even willful in places, our attempt is that the building shall offer a fine and highly individually presence to the city, an inventive new standard of market environment which will avoid the monotony and suggesting more rewarding ways to attract the neighborhood by providing them their needs.
The building is innovative in many respects. The construction is ecologically sensitive servicing, the beautifully planted green roofscape, and glazed elevations.

The Site situated in AB block AA-IA, located in New Town, Kolkata. It measures 48.0m along East direction and 25.0m along South direction, where 18m wide Street No. 85 defines the western edge.
