The project for this thesis is to create an interaction space in Saddar Karachi as a supporting facility to the reviving cinema culture in city. The theme of this research is adaptive reuse for social interaction at Karachi. The objective of this research is to understand the underline quality of spaces in the old income tax house at M. A. Jinnah road Karachi and propose design guidelines for social interaction in the existing structure. The methodology of this research includes documentation of the existing building and its context to convert this vacant structure into an interaction facility within the given context making it a suitable and usable space for social gathering as a new layer to the died out culture.

Contemporary materials are suggested for the execution of this design in contrast to the existing rubble stone masonry. Reinforced concrete cement is employed for carrying out civil works. Elevation is plastered with fair faced concrete, and glass and aluminum louvers are used for fenestration. All the materials incorporated are locally available.
