“Where there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure.” -Rumi
What one person may consider worthless could be highly prized or valued by someone else.
Eg. some people always going through people's garbage, looking for old and antique stuff.

The project is an up-cycling center that consists of:
1- A cafe where visitors can exchange their light waste collections with their light meals and drinks.
2- Temporary exhibitions (upcycled walls with niches where art pieces are displayed). These walls that are penetrated with other functions in order to remind users of the main purpose of the project.
3- Permanent exhibition.
4- Public workshops where people can produce their art pieces and display them.
5- Multipurpose hall.
6- Administration.
7- Terraces, Theaters, and interior plaza.
8- Street-Art and graffiti zones.
9- Services (Storage, Toilets, Parking..etc).
What is upcycling?
Upcycling is taking an item that is no longer needed
or wanted and giving it new life cycle as something
creative of higher quality.

Why choosing Downtown Amman?
Almost everywhere around the world, downtown is
where the primary shops are located and the best of
the events take place, it is where everyone wants to
hang out and be at, but in Amman, the capital city
of Jordan, things are a little different. Downtown
Amman means the old market, the vintage town;
it is where you go to shop for fabrics, accessories,
you will find antiques mongst electric equipment
and vintage furniture, gold and silver, you will find
all sorts of vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, & breads.
The cool part is that everything is at half price from
the rest of the city, and the best part is that until
today that is 2017, you will feel you have gone
at least 50 years back in time. Al-Balad (which
stands for downtown Amman) is part of Jordan’s
heritage, it is part of our culture, and it truly is a
one of a kind experience. Also, according to
observation and site studies; Downtown Amman
suffers from light waste management issues that
need to be solved to reduce the negative effect
on the environment, economy, and social life in
general.
