The design for the Animo Film and Theatre Arts Charter High School is built upon progressive and didactic ideas concerning both sustainability and education. The design intends to provoke inquiry within students leading them to question the notion of sustainability in their lives. Also, just as the students of AFTA venture outside the classroom to learn from real-world sources, the building figuratively turns itself inside out. The classrooms have become secondary while the reconfigurable central performance space and exterior amphitheater take on primary roles in the students’ education.
