My project deals with spatial transparency within a public space. The architecture blurs the distinction between the site and the intervention. Free movement of light and air through the open space was very important in order to ensure the success of the project. The extensive layering of the street furniture makes the architecture appear visually opaque provoking a new spatial experience. The combination of different spaces and vertical elements suggests motion within the park as it lies almost invisible on the landscape. Natural elements within the park like water, light, and views to and from Johannesburg become an architectural tool for dialog with the natural surroundings within an urban frame.
