CHALLENGE: TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE DESIGN INSTITUTE.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS:PROTECTING AIR, WATER AND LAND.

CONSERVING NATURAL RESOURCES.

USING RENEWABLE RESOURCES.

MINIMISING WASTE PRODUCTION.

MINIMISING CO2 EMISSIONS.

FOLLOWING 3R’S: REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

SOCIAL ASPECTS:

[21:50, 5/20/2020] Manpreet Kaur: IMPROVING QUALITY OF LIFE FOR INDIVIDUAL AND SOCIETY.

IMPROVING HEALTH, COMFORT AND WELL- BEING

PROMOTING HARMONY BETWEEN HUMANITY AND NATURE.
[21:51, 5/20/2020] Manpreet Kaur: ECONOMY ASPECTS: LOWERING INFRASTRUCTURE COST.

DECREASING ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE COST.

REDUCING WATER CONSUMPTION AND COST.

IMPROVING RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

Objectives:

The institute will not only support designers to turn their ideas and concepts into successful competitive business but will also provide an environment where they can develop the essential BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SKILLS.

[21:51, 5/20/2020] Manpreet Kaur: -TO RETAIN 100% EXISTING TREES.

-TO HAVE MINIMUM INTERVENTION ON SITE.

-TO RESTRICT VEHICULAR MOVEMENT ALONG THE PERIPHERY OF SITE.

-TO ACHIEVE 100% DAYLIT AREAS.

-THERMAL COMFORT WITH

PASSIVE TECHNIQUES.

-WATER MANAGEMENT.

VISION: AMALGAMATION OF AGE OLD PASSIVE TECHNIQUES AND MODERN SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE.

STRATEGIES:

1. Emphasis on strategies for reducing energy demand by providing adequate natural light, shading, landscape to reduce ambient temperature, and energy efficient active building systems.

2. Several energy conservation measures to reduce the energy loads of the building and the remaining demand will be met by producing energy from on-site installed high efficiency solar panels to achieve net zero criteria.

3. Optimization of water by Recycling waste water from the site and Rainwater collection for toilet flushing and irrigation. Use of low flow fixtures.

4.Windrow composting for decomposing organic waste from kitchen areas which can be used as manure for landscaping.

SITE PLANNING: -TRANSITION FROM PUBLIC TO PRIVATE ZONE.
-RECREATIONAL ZONE ACTS AS A BUFFER BETWEEN ACADEMIC AND RESIDENTIAL ZONE.
-DEDICATED VEHICULAR PARKING AND MOVEMENT ALONG SITE PERIPHERY.
-ONE MAIN ENTRY AND EXIT IS PROVIDED TO MAINTAIN SECURITY IN THE CAMPUS.
-RESIDENCE ALONG PERIPHERY FOR EASY DROPOFF WITHOUT INTERFERING THE SITE GREEN.
-DENSE VEGETATION AREA TO BE USED AS INTERACTION ZONE UNDER THE SHADE OF TREES.
