What is Buddhist Centre?
Buddhist centre is place where Buddhist monks of different age groupractice Buddhism. It is a community of monks and nuns who have chosen to withdraw from society, forming a new community devoted to religious practice. Buddhist centre can be considered holy spaces for various reasons, as noted -
Firstly, they are holy spaces because they share the symbolism of the centre of the world: the point of convergence, coordination and ordering, balance and harmony.
• They are places where there has been a manifestation of the holy. This can occur in various ways, but is often
linked to elements of nature which are holy in character (water, stone, forests), as well as those natural areas
• "All religions, as cultural phenomena, have used natural symbols to come closer to the mystery of the world.
• Finally, there is a whole range of architectural symbols. From an architectural perspective, religious buildings,
especially temples, are the
physical place where the holy space materializes. Nalanda was a Mahavihara, a large Buddhist monastery, in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern-day Bihar) in India. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The highly formalized methods of Jain and Buddhist learning helped inspire the establishment of large teaching institutions such as Taxila, Nalanda, and Vikramashila which are often characterised as India's early universities.
At its peak, the school attracted scholars and students from near and far with some travelling from Tibet, China, Korea, and Central Asia.Much of our knowledge of Nalanda comes from the writings of pilgrim monks from
Asia such as Xuanzang and Yijing who travelled to the Mahavihara in the 7th century.
The idea of designing Nalanda Buddhist Centre at Rajgie is due to the historical significance of the region as a major learning hub and preserver of many manuscripts of Buddhism. With this proposal, the opportunities for
perceiving higher studies in Buddhism, not only for the monks but also for other local people can be generated. An effort is made to promote the importance of ‘peace’ in life, soul through meditation.Interaction between
two different community may help in economic growth of the state.
