Conceptual Terrains of Socio-Spatial Relations Due to the large scale of the project, as well as the large variety of functions, we analyzed the set using conceptual terrains of socio-spatial relations. The first step is to categorize different groups of conceptual and practical elements that would be taken into consideration for designing the spaces1: such as natural and green infrastructure, spaces focused on leisure, accommodation and commercial spaces. In addition to its overwhelming history, perhaps it is possible to say that Shatt al-Arab has significant effects on the city of Basra. The identity and meaning of Basra, as in many other cities, without this river, will definitely be different. This natural and rich landscape attracts human to build on. On the western edge of the river, we see such events, sometimes dispersed and sometimes concentrated. But, there is a shortage of many features on the eastern side. Regarding the natural substrate on the edge, it can be used to broaden the horizons for the physical development of the city, for this reason. So if this horizon is achievable, we need population absorbing functions which fortunately most of them are requested by the project employer.
