Adland Villas and Condominium is on
former farmland on the island of Stord on
the west coast of Norway. I was
commissioned to create seven houses and
a small condominium with an agreement
that the development should be unlike
anything else previously built on this island.
The brief was for one single type of
wooden house with only marginal
variations to suit the respective buyers.
Practical, efficient and a little over
medium budget, the four-bedroom
houses and two-bedroom flats were
designed to be suitable for the modern,
busy family, perhaps first-time buyers for
the flats and second time buyers for the
houses.Although the villas are quite
close to each other, a storage wing over
two floors gives the best possible privacy.
One of the main considerations
when designing this small village was to
maximise the varying views of the sea,
river and distant mountains. Living rooms
in the villas are positioned on the second
floor to give the best views and light.
Huge windows face east, south and west
and these are complemented by high
ceilings, a large terrace and small balcony.
Just wun European Property Award 2010 for Best Architecture, multiple units and that was fun!
