honorable mention . minimalist project
this proposal stands quietly in admiration of both the colossal reinforced limestone wall and the majestic mountainous landscape. a relationship is formed between the continuous horizontal wall and the narrow vertical volume. in order to minimize the environmental impact on the site, the lodge-museum is compressed into a small building footprint measuring, 4 meters wide x 25 meters deep.
a roof terrace becomes the space where one understands the unifying relationship between the proposed volume, the archeological monument and surrounding landscape.
the ive of this proposal is to firmly establish a sense of place that is both concrete and particular in order to celebrate the contemplative nature of the archaeological site without de-monumentalizing the existing architecture.
