David Aslett working with Mike Lees of the Berlin based architectural practice Arch-ML are delighted to have received the Highly Commended award in the 2005 Guernsey Design Awards for Contributions to the Built Environment organised by the Environment Department. The judges comments summed up perfectly the intentions and the realisation of the project. `The provision of sizeable additional accommodation to a listed farmhouse, highly visible in a picturesque hamlet and valley, has been carried out with exceptional sensitivity incurring no adverse impact on the surroundings. This is a result of a really good understanding by the architect of the importance of the existing built and natural context within which the new accommodation sits. The link space between the existing and the new buildings provides good separation and independence yet maintains the integration of the two for the occupiers. The Architects have created a sensitive well-proportioned design with an excellent use of space and attention to detail, the standard of which the panel feel should be the norm`.
