Palos Verdes Art Center is a project designed in 1999 for an architectural competition held by the municipality of Palos Verdes district in southern California.
The district takes its name from the forest which occupies a great area; `Palos Verdes` meaning green county in Spanish. So the competition area which has been planned to be an art center is covered on four sides heavily by tress.
The art center has been desired to be used by the inhabitants of Palos Verdes, offering a large scala of daily activities as well as organizing some meetings, coctails and concerts which are planned to be held at evening time.
So spaces for artistic ateliers such as painting, sculpture,
photography, etc., interior and exterior exhibition spaces such as galleries, sculpture patios and a space for organizations such as a small auditorium have been put to the program of the center. Besides, the center has been requested to have commercial spaces where products of the ateliers would be sold, gastronomical spaces for visitors like coffee houses and administrational spaces for the staff. At the same time a well equipped kitchen, both for cooking courses and for gatherings to be held at the auditorium, has been asked to be designed. And all of these spaces have been desired to be reached easily from the entrance lobby where an information desk, waiting seats and WC`s would be situated.
