Visually Deconstructed

Residence for Actress Ramya Krishnan & family had lot of constraints in terms of Vaastu. Constraints not only placed the rooms in directions, but also the levels of the floor, the entrance position of the house and the major dimensions of the house.

All the rooms are placed in their respective directions {as the Living Room in the North East, Kitchen in the South East & Bedroom in South West}. The dimension of the site is 120 ft X 63 ft, the major axis is facing the sea and the southern minor axis is facing the road. To enter the house in North East living from the site entry of South, a lengthy corridor is provided.

As one enters the house from the living room-the lowest level of the house {+3’-3”lvl}, they’ll keep on climbing up in levels and when they come out they’ll climb down in levels. This raising and lowering of levels are as per vaastu, which was a challenge to provide access to the rooms.

The highest level of the overall house is the Master Bedroom {+19’-6”}, to achieve this height, there is a square staircase, which on the way leads us to the other bedroom and Bar lounge. There are totally 9 different levels in the whole house.

The 9 levels are schematically developed using 3d software and programmed so that the software adjusts the stairs automatically and retain the levels with the multiples of 6 inches.

Upon raising the levels, enough space was achieved to park two cars under the Ground floor Master Bedroom in the South West Corner. This led to a novel solution for the Parking requirement.

The water tank is placed above the Master Bedroom with a feature wall to achieve the topmost height. The northern part of the site is left open with a Swimming Pool and Lawn space.

The sea facing façade is divided into nine bays and the main entrance was place in one of the central three bays. The major dimensions were to be exactly of vaastu numerical.

The house is under construction and will be completed before September 2009.
