The market for sustainable design has passed the tipping pointand is rapidly becoming mainstream. ENR`s first Top GreenDesign Firms is an attempt to bypass the marketing and hype andmeasure the market by ranking designers based on their 2007 revenuefrom projects that were registered and actively seeking certificationfrom major third-party environmental standards or ratingsorganizations. The ENR Top 100 Green Designersgenerated $1.74 billion in revenue from such projects in 2007,$1.62 billion domestically and $121.2 million abroad.

Companies are ranked according to revenue for design services generated in 2007
from projects that have been registered with or certified by a third-party organization
that sets standards for measuring a facility’s environmental impact, energy efficiency
or carbon footprint. Such groups include the U.S. Green BuildingCouncil and the Green Building Initiative. Revenue is measured in $millions. Some markets may not add up to 100% due to rounding.
