AWF was established in 1998 after aMelbourne University studio project in Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, ledby lecturers, Esther Charlesworth and Darko Radovic. Officially in Mayof 2004, AWF became a company and abides by the laws and governances ofthe Australian Securities and Investment Commission. Four directorslead the organization and an advisory panel helps to provide advice onprojects and strategic planning. The Patron of AWF is The HonourableGareth Evans, now Director of the International Crisis Group {ICG} inBruxelles.
