Housing minister Caroline Flint officially opened the first zero-carbon home by a mainstream housebuilder yesterday {15 May}.Designed by London- and Cardiff-based practice Gaunt Francis, thethree-bedroom Barratt Green House hits Level 6 of the Code forSustainable Homes.The house has been built at the BuildingResearch Establishment {BRE} Innovation Park in Watford, joining theUK`s first Code Level 6 house, designed by Sheppard Robson Architects.Barrattwill now test the building for the next two years, and plans toapply the most successful aspects of the design to future homes.
