It was instituted by the school of architecture at the Universidad Anahuac Mexico Norte and is awarded to those professionals that promote entrepreneurial activity and excellence in architectural design. Mario Pani Darqui, who died in 1993, was a Mexican modernist responsible for shaping Mexico City.

Receiving the award from the Mexican architect Bernardo Gomez-Pimienta, Rogers said: “Architecture should be democratic and advocate a distribution of wealth that leads to dialogues open to everyone.”

Gomez-Pimienta, director of the school, praised Rogers’ committment to cities and to the people that inhabit them.

Rogers was in Mexico City to oversee work on the BBVA Tower, designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners in collaboration with Legorreta & Legorreta. It is approaching its topping out.
