Zaha Hadid to Design ME Dubai

The Opus at night

London architect Zaha Hadid is designing the new ME by Mélia Dubai hotel that will be housed in the impressive Opus Tower. The 100-room property, which is located in the city’s Burj Khalifa district, is expected to open in 2016. ME Dubai marks the first hotel project in which Hadid is responsible for both the interiors and exteriors of the building.

“We have been searching for the next city for the ME brand to locate in and found it in this remarkable project in Dubai,” said Gabriel Escarrer, CEO and Vice Chairman of Meliá Hotels International. “It is a fascinating, exciting city that meets the high standards that ME by Meliá offers guests.”

Hadid will work on the interior of ME Dubai while completing the exterior of the Opus, which she started in 2007. The hotel will occupy 250,000 square feet within the Opus building and will include Michelin-star restaurants. The top floors will be dedicated to privately owned apartments including penthouse suites with roof top terraces.

The Opus building is made up of two structures that stand as a monolithic cube. During the day, the cube appears to be solid but at night, the mid-section “dematerializes” and light fills the void. The Opus will stand as part of the skyline of Dubai.
