Call for applications - San Francisco Study Away - Summer Program

Temple University's Film & Media Arts Department (FMA) is now accepting applications for the newly created San Francisco Study Away - Summer Program. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in December, 2013. The deadline for all uploaded documents is February 28, 2014. The FMA San Francisco Program provides undergraduate and graduate students with academic, experiential learning and professional experiences in new media technologies, film, art, and ecology that are unique to the San Francisco Bay Area. Internships are available in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley. The University of California, Berkeley campus serves asour base for coursework, housing, and special events. It is an ideal location to access the Bay Area Rapid Transit system (BART) to attend lectures, internships, events and excursions.

The Film & Media Arts Department offers Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs that focus on the development of creative and technical skills in film, video, audio and new media and the theoretical understanding of media and culture.

Peter d’Agostino is Professor of Film and Media Arts, Center for the Arts at Temple University. His pioneering photography, video and new media projects have been exhibited internationally in the form of installations, performances, telecommunication events, broadcast productions and are distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix, NY. Major exhibitions of his work include: Whitney Biennial, New York; Sao Paulo Bienal, Brazil, and Kwangju Biennial, Korea. Professor d’Agostino is a three-time Fulbright Scholar (Brazil, 1996; Australia, 2003; Italy, 2006) and has been affiliated with numerous San Francisco Bay Area organizations from the 1970s to the present. 

Rini Yun Keagy is a filmmaker, video artist and editor based in San Francisco. She is a Lecturer in the Film and Digital Media Department, University of California, Santa Cruz. After receiving a BA at the University of California, Berkeley, she completed an MFA at Temple University. Her work engages experimental forms and conceptual inquiry while exploring multi-ethnicity and class, agrarianism, labor and leisure, and psychological trauma. 

Nora M. Alter received her PhD in comparative literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Professor Alter is author of Vietnam Protest Theatre: The Television War on Stage (Indiana University Press), Projecting History: 
Non-Fiction German Film (University of Michigan Press) and Chris Marker (University of Illinois Press) and co-editor with Lutz Koepnick of Sound Matters: Essays on the Acoustics of Modern German Culture (Berghahn Books). She has published more than fifty essays on a broad range of topics including film and media studies, German and European studies, cultural and visual studies and contemporary art.

Alison Crouse received her BFA in Photography from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MFA in Film and Media Arts from Temple University. Having traveled extensively, Alison is motivated by the power of artistic and cultural exchanges. She is passionate about the potential for study away programs to expand the educational possibilities of students through intellectual engagement embedded within experiential opportunities.
