ARCHHIST '14 / Call for Papers: Periods, Movements, Outsiders
Focusing on singular objects and approaches, irregularities and dissimilarities begin to come in sight and another discussion appears on the extend of differentiation among a stylistic approach.
Modern movements, owning a self definition provided by the members of a group cannot be excluded from this leakage of belonging. A single building or a designed space may only belong partly to any aesthetical and ideological general frame. The impact of a period or the modern movement on the rest of the world creates more heterogeneous fields to consider on.
In addition to the relativity of the criteria for the movements in architecture, the freedom (or the curse) of being an outsider needs to be discussed, too.
What are the sources and the future results of being an outsider at all, not representing any common theory or attitude? Does every movement have a certain share of outsiderness? The opposite question seems also relevant: Have there been individual approaches not claiming any influence on others or on the future?
