Call for Workshop Participation

Wood Architecture - from Tradition to the New Innovations

Organizer: Anne-Marjo Panu, Puu-Hubi, Seinäjoki unit, School of Architecture, Tampere University of Technology, Finland

Workshop will be organized on October 23rd.

Wood Architecture – workshop will focus on the very latest research findings on the design, planning and construction of the wooden buildings. The discussion will enhance the generation of new ideas of the future wood architecture. Contents for the sessions of the workshop can be, to mention some of them, new building regulations, energy efficiency, fire safety, sound insulation, new design solutions, industrial construction systems, computerized planning and production methods, cost factors and sustainable architecture.
It seems that the construction engineers need the new knowledge of wood architecture  most and that the architects can design in wood, but can they? Answering this question we try to find the best solutions of building with wood in the future. Working together in cooperation will create future networking also internationally.

The sessions will focus on the three basic questions of wood architecture:
1. How to move from tradition of wood architecture to new innovations?
2. How to use wood as building material in an innovative way?
3. How to create sustainability in wooden buildings?

Puu-Hubi – project is the networking, education and development project aimed at the small and medium sized companies of the South Osthrobothnian construction cluster (2012-2014). The project has given many answers but it has also raised many questions in the field of wooden architecture.

Apply for the workshop by sending a 250 word abstract to [email protected] with the title of Application for Wood Architecture - from tradition to the New Innovations. The application ends August 8th and participants will receive their acceptance notification September 5th.
