URSA enjoyed relevant presence in the presentation of the World Sustainable Building Conference, World SB14 Barcelona, which will take place from the 28th to the 30th October in Barcelona. As a Platinum Sponsor, the company is completely involved in preparations for this important global gathering which will unite the foremost stakeholders in sustainable building.

Last 1st July, Efrén del Pino, International Marketing Director at URSA Insulation, was present at the Organising Committee meeting, where attendees were updated on the main Conference highlights. The first of these important focal points was the presentation of the Report “A Global Vision”, a study on the challenges that the global building sector faces, which will serve as the starting point for the debate taking place at World SB14 Barcelona.

The Report shows that improving energy efficiency would allow a 24% reduction in housing energy demand and 27% in non-residential building. As a consequence, emissions would decrease by up to 23%.

The challenge that the building sector faces in the first half of our century is to provide adequate housing for a growing global population which will exceed 9,000 million in 2050. Following current tendencies, energy consumption in building would increase 50% between 2010 and 2050 to satisfy habitability demands, bringing a 40% increase in green house gas emissions. Thus, by 2050, the building sector alone would emit all admissible CO2 emissions to limit global warming to 2ºC.

Mr Del Pino expressed his support to the proposals for CO2 reduction presented in the Report, based on two strategies: energy efficiency and a change in energy sources. “At URSA we have been working for years, not only on our own construction materials’ sustainability , but also on developing products, systems and solutions that make the buildings where they are installed more energy efficient and less polluting”, the Marketing manager said.

URSA will have prominent presence in this global meeting, presented officially to the public on the 2nd July. The insulating company will be organising three debate sessions, will benefit from a great stand in the exhibition area and will be present in all the events and activities that take place over the three Conference days.

We understand that it can be a key starting point to make things change within the building sector and that sets the basis to develop roadmaps and action plans within the sector in different markets around the world. World SB14 Barcelona is a Conference organised by GBCe and promoted by CIB (Conseil International de Batîment), iiSBE (International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment), UNEP-SBCI (Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative) and FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers), and counts on the collaboration of WGBC (World Green Building Council). The Sustainable Building Conference Series, of which World SB14 Barcelona is part, is the largest global meeting aimed at debating different aspects of sustainable building.
