Dear Colleagues, ·hybrid city, ·morphed city, ·fragmented city ·mutated city. The conference is expected to evolve around the question of “how?”s of architectural practice for the composite city. Hence, the essentials of architectural realities - scale, order, space, place, program, content, identity …- will define the backbone of the discussions.

INVITED SPEAKERS
Caroline Bos
Co-founder, Principle Urban Planner, UN-Studio
Caroline Bos studied History of Art at Birkbeck College of the University of London and Urban and Regional Planning at the Faculty of Geosciences, University of Utrecht. In 1988, she co- founded Van Berkel & Bos Architectuurbureau with Ben van Berkel, extending her theoretical and writing projects to the practice of architecture. Realized projects include the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, museum Het Valkhof in Nijmegen and the Moebius house. In 1998, Caroline Bos co-founded UNStudio (United Net). UNStudio presents itself as a network of specialists in architecture, urban development and infrastructure. Current urban development projects include the restructuring of the station area of Arnhem, the mixed-use Raffles City in Hangzhou, a masterplan for Basauri, and the design and restructuring of the Harbour Ponte Parodi in Genoa. Caroline Bos has taught as a guest lecturer at Princeton University, the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and the Academy of Architecture in Arnhem. In 2012, she was awarded an Honorary Professorship at the University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. Central to her teaching is the inclusive approach of architectural works integrating virtual and material organization and engineering constructions.
Murat Güvenç
Director of Urban Studies Centre (USRC), Istanbul Sehir University
Murat Güvenç is a faculty member at the Department of Sociology and the director of Urban Studies Research Centre (USRC), Istanbul Sehir University, where he has been since October 2010. He is also teaching sociology at Bogazici University. From 2005-2010 he was a professor in graduate program in Architectural Design, Istanbul Bilgi University, where he also worked as one of the main curators of the exhibition entitled “Istanbul 1910-2010: The City, Built Environment and Architectural Culture”, funded by Istanbul 2010, European Capital of Culture Agency. From 1992- 2005, he worked at the Department of City and Regional Planning, Middle East Technical University. His research focus is on urban sociology and ecology, migration, relational ontology, quantitative methods, historical-urban geography, industrial geography, and Istanbul. Currently he is involved in projects on world migration flows, Turkish internal migration and migrant profiles, and Bursa metropolitan area.
Murat Tabanlıoğlu
Partner, Tabanlıoğlu Architects
After graduating from IEL, he studied architecture at Vienna Technical University. After graduating in 1992 he returned to Istanbul. He founded Tabanlioglu Architects in cooperation with Dr. Hayati Tabanlioglu in Istanbul in 1990. Besides his atelier program at Bilgi University, he lectures at universities and various international platforms and serves as a juror at academic programs and competitions. Murat Tabanlioglu is a Chartered Member of RIBA.
