Conference:Design for Urban Disaster

Conference
May 5-7, 2014
Harvard University
Cambridge, MA, USA

What is an urban approach to disaster preparedness and response?

Urban disasters are on the increase, with rapid urbanization causing more people to live in places vulnerable to hazards such as flood, earthquake and tsunami.

This conference invites humanitarian aid practitioners, those in government and designers from spatial/physical disciplines to explore ways to improve actions before and after disaster.

The conference addresses three key themes:

responseefforts to improve relief and recovery practice;
resiliencebuilding the capacity of a system, community or society potentially exposed to hazards to adapt;
transformation - fundamental change that results in the substantial reduction of a population’s vulnerability.

The conference will take place at The South Asia Institute at Harvard University, 1730 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA, 02138. The nearest subway stop is the Harvard station on the "T" Red Line.
