Last call for registration for International VELUX Award 2014

3 March 2014 is the last day of registration for the International VELUX Award 2014 for Students of Architecture. Students not registered by then will miss the opportunity of competing for global recognition by having their project displayed in AR/The Architectural Review as well as for a share of the prize sum of 30,000 euros.

So far, close to 1,500 students or student teams from all over the world have registered their intention to submit their project on Light of Tomorrow. We would like even more students to sign up and to give us a strong voice in the international discussion of daylight in architecture, says Per Arnold Andersen.

In its ten years’ existence, the Award has gained momentum in the worldwide student community. In 2012, more than 3,200 students from 59 countries registered, and 986 teams sent in their projects for final evaluation by the international jury.

The jury for the 2014 Award is already in place representing wide-ranging professional experience from design of world-famous architectural landmarks to teaching and architectural journalism.

One of the jury members is Craig Dykers of Snøhetta, right now finalising the National September 11 Memorial Museum Pavilion at the World Trade Center in New York City. He urges students to take up the challenge to dive deep into the topic of daylight in architecture.

The award theme “Light of Tomorrow” is a focused premise offering students the opportunity to dive more deeply into an idea. In a world where focus is often on the complete structure comprising a lot of different aspects of architecture, this Award is a chance to explore much deeper what light is all about, says Craig Dykers.

Editor of the world-leading architectural magazine AR/The Architectural Review, Catherine Slessor, is on the jury, and the AR magazine is global media partner of the International VELUX Award 2014. The media partnership implies that the winning projects will be featured in the AR:

The International VELUX Award is open to creative reflections on the role of daylight in architecture; not just as a design component or external factor, but also as a central issue concerned with shaping architecture and promoting sustainability. The prize sum is 30,000 euros.
