The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, invites qualified academics/professionals to apply for a faculty position as associate or full professor in Museology/Museum Studies.
ADM is currently developing a teaching and research focus in Museology/Museum Studies which values innovation, critical thinking and leadership. Museum Studies is seen as an increasingly vital component throughout the entire curriculum offered at ADM. Accordingly, the successful applicant will be expected to teach and conduct research in an interdisciplinary mode, and across a variety of fields which may include the history and future of museums, museums in the digital age (museum informatics, museum technologies, museums and the web), material culture, visitor interaction, program leadership, management and educational programs and methodologies. Other visual culture courses in the candidate’s area of specialization would be most welcome.
In 2013, ADM/NTU and the Singapore Economic Development Board established the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA). The successful candidate is expected to play a central role in driving the CCA’s research agenda.
The school
ADM is committed to developing a global program and we welcome applications from candidates with international as well as regional expertise. The successful candidate should be able to engage students historically, socially, and conceptually and inspire imaginative, critical and interdisciplinary reflection across theory and practice. ADM provides excellent opportunities for funded research and the successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service at undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will also involve administrative duties and committee participation. The school currently offers six BFA degrees and an MA and PhD by research.
ADM is the first comprehensive art school in Singapore. It provides a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, providing students with the knowledge and skills to develop, and produce groundbreaking creative artworks and related scholarly activity. ADM also promotes Singapore’s creative culture and identity, and is positioned to play a central role in the transformation of Singapore into a regional centre of art, art history, media and design.

Qualifications:
A PhD degree (or post-graduate degree/relevant experience) as well as a strong record of university level teaching, research, supervision and publishing, are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with:
– expertise in interdisciplinary teaching at the advanced undergraduate and/or graduate level
– record of published research
– previous experience in museum leadership/management or collections research.
The salary and level of appointment offered will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Information on emolument and general terms and conditions of service is available on the university website.
