A global call for entries saw over 180 proposals from 39 countriessubmitted for the Rafael Viñoly Architects` Research Fellowships, eachwith a wide approach to the suggested general theme: how architecturecan better meet the needs of communities undergoing social andenvironmental stress. The successful teams include researchers fromMexico, Australia, Colombia, France, China and the USA. They explorearchitecture from both standpoints of designer and user, in locationsas diverse as Bogotá and Shanghai, the slums of Mexico City and thetsunami-torn villages of Aceh, Indonesia.
