Festival of Design is an interdisciplinary design platform initiated by Design Republic in 2016 in Shanghai, with its founding partners Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu. The vision of Festival of Design is to embrace the communal aspect of design to be inclusive, interdisciplinary, and innovative through a diverse program of lectures, talks, exhibitions, and workshops.
Festival of Design 2023 will take place from November 10th to December 10th in Shanghai, China.
Festival of Design places an emphasis on collaborative projects and communal engagement with an interest in initiatives offering our partners Concepts x Space inspired by the notion of community and exchange, which enables diverse audiences to engage with inspiring design stories. This emphasis on providing accessible and inclusive experiences remains a core aspect of the festival.
For the year 2023, Festival of Design will explore the theme of "RE-". In the post-pandemic world, it's essential to reassess our values, redefine our priorities, and rediscover the meaning in what we do with design. It continues to primarily offer free experiences and aims to inspire young audiences while facilitating dialogues between designers and architects.
This year’s show features a standout lineup of keynote speakers, including Anders Byriel (CEO of Kvadrat), Shay Alkalay (Co-Founder of Raw-Edges), Mark Lee (Co-Founder of Johnston Marklee) and many more.
Other must-attend activations include the ECO VISION forum - a series of events dedicated to sustainability - along with an exclusive screening of ALFABETO MANGIAROTTI. A month-long “RE-” themed exhibition will also be held at Neri&Hu’s Design Republic flagship store through December 10th, featuring stunning work by BAUM, CLASSICON, KEF, KVADRAT and others.
