Joaquim Moreno has been appointed Chief Curator of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, which will take place in the fall of 2028. José Mateus, the Triennale president, defended this decision by citing Moreno's high standards, critical insight, unique voice, and intellectual depth.

"Choosing Joaquim Moreno, an exceptional team player, guarantees an original and relevant curatorial perspective, directing our gaze toward territories distinct from those explored in previous editions," said José Mateus, President of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.

"As with all previous iterations of the Lisbon Triennale, the curatorial team begins its work three years in advance, allowing the time needed to develop its project as fully as possible and to reflect on the work of its predecessors," Mateus added.

"As we approach the eighth edition, it is essential to nurture the yeast that has been quietly fermenting for nearly twenty years at the Lisbon Triennale," said Joaquim Moreno on his appointment.

"Each new batch resumes the slow rising of the renewed purpose of increasing architecture's commitment to the city. It is an immense joy to be called upon with the care of this process," he added.

Architect and curator Joaquim Moreno has a vast body of work examining the connections between architecture and media, exhibits, pedagogy, and energy. Exhibitions and books that support his research include Radar Veneza: Portuguese Architects in the Biennale 1975-2021 (Casa da Arquitectura, with Alexandra Areia), The University is Now on Air, Broadcasting Modern Architecture (Canadian Centre for Architecture), Classroom: a Teenage View (arc en rêve center d'architecture, CCB Architecture Centre, and Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design & Architecture), and Storytelling Meters at MAAT, the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology. 

Moreno is the head of the Integrated Master's Degree in Architecture and an Associate Professor at the University of Porto's Faculty of Architecture.

The Lisbon Architecture Triennale reiterates its dedication to a forward-thinking program that acts as a forum for debating future disciplinary tactics as this new cycle gets underway. 

Joaquim Moreno has been tasked with spearheading a process that offers a unique opportunity for experimentation and depth across a three-year period. 

The 7th edition of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale was curated by Ann-Sofi Rönnskog and John Palmesino of Territorial Agency, the team posed an open-ended question that invites architects, researchers, participants, attendees, and citizens to ponder the unprecedented scale of urban existence and its far-reaching implications. 

The theme was titled "How Heavy is a City?", the theme prompted an exploration of the complexities and weight of urban environments, encompassing both physical and metaphorical aspects. It invited consideration of the materials that constitute a city—buildings, infrastructure, and population density—while also reflecting on the social, economic, and cultural burdens that cities carry. 

In addition, ReSa Architects, a young Mumbai-based firm founded by sisters Shivani and Revati Shah, was announced as the winners of the fifth edition of the Début Award, one of the most prestigious honors in international architecture.
