Pupunha House offers skyward oasis amidst a lush landscape in Manaus

Pupunha House, designed by Laurent Troost Architectures, provides a serene retreat amidst a lush landscape in Manaus, creating a peaceful oasis that reaches for the sky.
Manaus-based landscape studio Hana Eto Gall Landscape created the landscape for the retreat, which is situated on the highest point of a residential community in Manaus, Brazil, and borders a permanent conservation area.
The design was intended to be a direct interaction with the Amazon jungle.

The design idea was to blur the lines between natural plant and constructed structure, making the garden the real protagonist. Chris Coimbra created the interior of the house, which was designed by Laurent Troost Architectures.
Visitors traverse a path surrounded by tropical flora, where lush textures, huge leaves, and natural shade create a fresh, humid atmosphere. The arrival is presented as a sensory experience.

This integration of nature into daily life is maintained inside the house as vegetation flows through the circulation channels and into the architecture.

Pupunha House reflects the concept of a house that appears to float above the forest canopy thanks to automated watering systems and an execution method that respects the ecosystem and the terrain.

This strategy is also reflected in plant selection, which favors native and climate-adapted species such palms, banana trees, calatheas, alocasias, and heliconias.
To improve comfort, seclusion, and biodiversity, new species with ecological and aesthetic value were added while preserving a portion of the current vegetation.
