Danish architecture studio Henning Larsen Architects have completed a new housing complex with "striking wavy silhouette" on a waterfront of Denmark. 

Called The Wave, the mountainous-looking project create a distinctive visual presence dissolved in the existing landscape and the water, which is located in the town of Vejle in Denmark. 

Creating five artificial hills and dramatic peaks, the project takes cues from the area’s unique landscape – The Wave is a built extension of natural surroundings, an architectural tribute to local identity.

"Wave stands as an architectural embodiment of the surrounding landscape," stated Henning Larsen Architects in its project description. 

"Passing through town by rail or over the Vejle Fjord Bridge, The Wave’s five peaks stand out as a recognizable symbol of the city. The apartment building’s undulating form evokes the surrounding landscape, the waters of Vejle Fjord, or the rise of the fjord itself."

"Bringing over one hundred residences and a public pier to the Vejle waterfront, The Wave is an engine of revitalization, a magnet for activity and community," added the studio.

Encompassing a total of 15,000-square-metre area, the building comprises five wavy hills in which their internal spaces are filled with the new apartments. The apartments are differentiated with irregularly-arranged balconies that create a new pattern on its own facade. 

The building is easily visible from rail, road and sea as the building creates a dramatic silhouette in the skyline of the region. The five peaks of the new apartments reflect the region’s hilly landscape and seafaring heritage.

"There is only one place in the world where this building can be, and that is at the harbor front in Vejle. The building works here because it interplays with the surrounding hills, the architecture of the bridge and the lapping of Vejle Fjord," said Søren Øllgaard, Partner and Design Director at Henning Larsen.
