On the weekend of March 25–26, 2023, we’re giving Copenhageners a wonderful gift, for free, when Danish Architecture Center and the City of Copenhagen launch Open House Copenhagen – unlocking buildings in the city typically closed to the public.
Join us behind the walls of everything from palaces to secret technical installations you had no idea existed.
At Open House Copenhagen, you’re invited to experience Copenhagen’s fantastic architecture up close and to hear the many stories hidden in the city’s bricks and concrete. With more than 40 open buildings on the program, you can visit beautiful palaces, fascinating power plants, private homes and more, experiencing the tides of history as well as contemporary architects’ own takes on urban living.
New Perspectives on Architecture
Architecture is not just about famous architects and beautiful opera houses – it’s also the well-designed daycare center or a repurposed factory. But we aren’t necessarily able to walk in and experience these types of buildings. At Open House Copenhagen on March 25–26, 2023 everyone is invited inside to see buildings that we otherwise only ever see from the outside.
A Sample from the Program
DAC is collaborating with Karberghus, owner of a number of Copenhagen’s finest heritage buildings. They will be opening the doors to Zieglers Gaard, the Rococo-style building where one of the most influential people in Danish history, N.F.S. Grundtvig, resided in the 1850s. You are also invited to visit the iconic Brønnums Hus on Kongens Nytorv, a favorite haunt of Hans Christian Andersen and home to a unique Japanese gilt-leather wallpaper and a summery frieze painted by one of Denmark’s renowned Skagen Painters.
International Phenomenon
Open House is an international concept that started 30 years ago in London. Today, Open House weekends are held in more than 50 cities around the world.
DAC is looking forward to hosting Open House Copenhagen in 2023, when the city is World Capital of Architecture.
