Young Moroccan Architecture Awards to reward the creativity of young Moroccan architects is now open

Registration for the Young Moroccan Architecture Awards (YMAA) to reward the creativity of young Moroccan architects is now open.

The Young Moroccan Architecture Awards are back! Cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic and the ensuing health crisis, the first edition of the YMAA unfortunately could not be held. Today, after two years of hard work and research, Archimedia Group is proud to announce its “new” first edition of the YMAA 2022, which will be full of surprises, novelties, and twists.

A first on the African continent and in the MENA region, the YMAA 2022 will be one of the most important events of the Moroccan architecture with an international scope.

At the dawn of the 21st century, architectural practices in Morocco are reaching a decisive turning point. A larger portion of the population is calling on the services of architects for the design of their homes, the headquarters of their companies or for the layout of their shops, restaurants or medical practices.

More than ever before, architects now have a front row seat in attracting shoppers to shopping malls; tourists to hotels and resorts;  restaurant goers for whom comfort and aesthetics are as important as gastronomy; or investors to renovate heritage buildings, and so on.

In addition, the opening of new public and private national schools of architecture has stimulated enthusiasm for this career and a better recognition of this profession among the population.

As a result, the typology of the architectural population is currently undergoing a major change, with a decrease in the average age of practitioners since, each year, hundreds of young graduates enter the job market.

Today, it is necessary to honor these architects, to stimulate their creativity, and recognize their originalities and interests, as well as reward the most talented with the national and international recognition they deserve.

To do so, the Archimedia Group, with its twenty years of experience and permanent commitment to architects, has decided to organize the Young Moroccan Architecture Awards, YMAA to recognize the excellence of architectural achievements and practices in Morocco.

This festival of creativity will allow hundreds of young architects under 45 years old to showcase to a wide audience, via national and international media, the innovative projects they have designed, attract new clients and set cutting edge trends.

The most deserving architects will receive Awards within over 30 categories and 3 distinctions. In addition, two prizes will be awarded to the IEPs of Moroccan students studying in national and foreign schools of architecture.

The jury will be presided by renowned architect, Taoufik El Oufir and composed of eminent architects and professionals from Morocco, Italy and France. Christian de Portzamparc, architect of the Grand Theatre of Casablanca, will be the guest of honor of the jury.

Registrations are now open from until 18 may on the website.

More information about the competition can be seen on the website.
