Bjarke Ingels and BIG Partner Jacob Lange have launched a crowdfunding campaign to install this giant mirrored sphere at this year's Burning Man, an annual event takes place in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada.

Launched on Indiegogo website, BIG's architects target a $50,000 total budget over the next two months to erect this "giant reflective art piece" that will offer a new perspective of the Playa.

The 2018 Burning Man will kick off on August 26, 2018 and will continue till September 3, 2018 in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. The architects have only two months to reach the total amount of money and they have reached at $7,185 until now.

Dubbed as ORB, Ingels and Lange's aim to create a mirrored environment that can interact with every sci-fi fan, a wayfinder for travelers. Described also as "a huge disco ball", the giant sphere will provide an eye-catching party environment to those who love a good party at the heart of desert.

The ORB is a completely mirrored sphere, scaled to 1/500,000th of the earth’s surface, with a diameter of nearly 100 feet (30 metres) and is raised from the ground by a 32-metre inclined steel mast. The ORB looks simple, but actually consists of 5 main parts: Sphere, Mast, Baseplate, Foundation anchors and Installations (Fans ETC.), as explained in its crowdfunding website.

"The ORB finds itself at the axis of Art & Utility, capturing the entire Black Rock City in an airborne temporal monument that mirrors the Burning Man experience to the Burners as single beings in the midst of an intentional community," said the architects.

"Visible from most of The Playa, it will help Burners navigate the desert and find way."

"At night, the ORB will blend entirely into its surroundings and become part of the desert. The ORB is a tribute to mother earth & human expression - designed to easily inflate and deflate, leaving no trace on the Playa."

"The ORB’s honest and clear expression hides a lot of complexity and effort. We have funded the majority of 30 ton of steel and 1000 hours of welding of the structure as well as 1500 sewing hours for the 2000 m2 / 21,500 sq ft sphere ourselves," the architects continued.

"To complete the funding, we are looking to raise 50, 000 USD from friends, family and anyone who would like to bring this art piece to Burning Man 2018 - your donation will bring a temporal planet to the Playa! In return for your support, we have a range of juicy perks for you to choose from as a thank you for your kind donation."

This is not the first project to be funded by using crowdsourced campaign by Bjarke Ingels, the Danish architect previously had started a kickstarter campaign to fund the Waste-to-Energy Plant in Copenhagen, which is nearing completion.
