Mexican architecture firm PPAA Arquitectos has completed a compact concrete house located in a residential neighborhood of Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico. The house, named Casa Sierra Fria, include a private rooftop volume to allow homeowners to spend more time overlooking the sun with a hammock. 

Covering a total of 350-square-metre area, the two-storey house is based on a gridal layout that explore its programmatic functions in more open and flexible ways. 

"As the majority of the sites in this neighborhood have regular constructions on three of their four sides, the architectural concept began to explore the idea of the site as a contained void with a structural open grid on top of it," said PPAA Arquitectos. 

Each quadrant of the building has a different program and a different relationship with the surrounding patio. The back façade of the building is opened to the garden and dressed with fully glazed windows. 

The architects achieved a visible solid-void relationship for this house by using soft color palette such as powder color paint in the interior.  

This structural grid is intersected in the middle by the staircase and the service units, freeing the surrounding spaces towards the exterior. On top of this light wall-based structure is a solid block that contains the private rooms of the house; these spaces have more restricted openings to outside views.

PPAA completed this house in collaboration with Alfonso de la Concha Rojas.
