The Trafalgar Pub
Karl Marx and his sidekick Engels spent much time on the island of Jersey in the mid nineteenth century, staying in St Aubin's The Trafalgar pub, which is where this one-off event takes place.
Poet Will Burns chairs a lively discussion about Karl Marx: the man behind the politics and also the impact and legacy of Marxism today, drawing on letters Marx and Engels wrote one another whilst they were on the island. Joining the discussion is a panel of enthusiasts and experts consisting of Rachel Holmes, author of a brilliant new biography of Marx's daughter as heard on Radio 4 Book of the Week; Eleanor Marx: A Life ; Robin Blackburn, former Editor of New Left Review and author of many books including the greatly acclaimed An Unfinished Revolution: Karl Marx and Abraham Lincoln; and Anna Baghiani, Assistant Librarian a Société Jersiaise, a centre for the study of Jersey archaeology, history, natural history, the ancient language and the conservation of the environment - who will shed light on Marx's time spent in Jersey & its' revolutionary history.
