"It is important to design in the right time and in the right place" says Peter Cook

"It is important to design in the right time and in the right place socially, economically, culturally and politically," emphasized British architect, Professor, writer and founder of Archigram Sir Peter Cook in both during his lecture at this year's World Architecture Festival and in an exclusive interview with World Architecture Community.

Addressing a large audience during a lecture at the World Architecture Festival 2017 in the second day of the event, Cook has evaluated many young generation architects, their works and their progressive backgrounds in contemporary architecture scene, passing beyond their creativity and programmable agenda.

"The late Zaha Hadid had a 'tricky relationship' with her practice’s current director Patrik Schumacher, said Peter Cook, while evaluating other architects' works and the methods of design including Japanese architect Toyo Ito and Chinese architect Wang Shu.

Cook, 81, is one of founders of an avant-garde and neo-futurist architecture group of Archigram in the 1960s, which created a series of transformative radical proposals. The futuristic movement is best known with The Plug-In City, combining society and technology as a "workable" and a good hybrid.

Founded with Warren Chalk, Dennis Crompton, David Greene, Ron Herron and Michael Webb in the 1960s, Archigram - though they did not build anything together - influenced many generations of architects through its conceptual newness. Archigram's group won the Royal Gold Medal in 2002.

Sir Peter Cook founded CRAB Studio - literally known as Cook-Robotham Architectural Bureau - with Gavin Robotham in 2006 in London. CRAB Studio recently completed a Drawing Studio, Arts University Bournemouth, England last year. The Drawing Studio was opened to the public with the late Zaha Hadid, just before her unexpected death on March 31, 2016.

In this World Architecture Community's exclusive interview, Peter Cook is in conversation with Prof. Dr. Abdi Güzer, both an architect and critic, in Arena Berlin during this year's World Architecture Festival. Before passing to the interview, please take a look at a short portion of the fantastic presentation given by Sir Peter Cook, full of energy, at WAF 2017 on November 16.
