Happy 2015! Satellite is back in Brooklyn on Tuesday, January 13 with more talks about cities. This month Satellite will hear about:
Transformation through design?
Can design transform cities, landscapes, and regions to improve people’s lives? It’s a heady claim, and also the mission of the Van Alen Institute. From provocative subway games to conceptual interventions in New Orleans’ vacant lots, Van Alen investigates the challenges facing the built environment. The organization’s Steven Thomson will present.
Classical house parties
Aiming to bring neighbors together and demystify classical music, online platform Groupmuse allows people to host chamber music performances in their living rooms. Sam Bodkin will discuss.
Planning and energy
Architect Tony Daniels, principal of Brooklyn-based design firm Cycle Cities, will discuss the potential for carbon overlay zoning to become a viable energy conservation tool.
