Norman Foster's firm Foster+Partners have collaborated with the innovative Danish design house, Stelton, for a new range of tableware set, featuring rounded details, soft geometry and highly-stylistic sculptural look, with elegant simplicity in their overall form.
Developed as part of the company's tradition of working with leading designers to produce a wide range of tableware and lifestyle accessories, the new tableware set consists of wine carafes, espresso cups, bowls, sugar bowls, thermos and water carafe - each object is a response to its specific function, while embodying a shared language.
"There’s a wonderful ambiguity in the power of a curve, the power of a line, whether it is defining an individual, a building, a bridge, a skyline, or a vessel. They are all part of the same family, in a way. The issues of quality, workmanship and textures is common to all these different scales," said Norman Foster.
"In the end, it comes down to the elements that we touch, the interface of our daily lives. The translation of a design idea through prototyping and production, and the quality of those finishes is vital."
"Whether that is a mass manufactured product or a handcrafted object. The common denominator is the care and love that goes into it at every stage, creating a product that is going to be part of everyday lives," he added.
The architect follows an eclectic approach to materiality, tying together the unique characteristics of stainless steel, porcelain and glass through form and sensitive detailing.
"From an understated, yet refined set of stainless steel tableware, featuring wine goblets, carafe, bowls, and tray for the evening, to a more informal range of porcelain and glass coffee cups, sugar bowl, thermos and water carafe, the objects are designed for a wide range of settings and purposes," stated Foster+Partners.
The new tableware set is on display at the Stelton booth, Hall 4.0 – C10, at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt between 9-13 February 2018.
Norman Foster previously designed a bathroom range for Spanish brand Porcelanosa, lighting products for Lumina, and Arc table for Molteni & C and door furniture for Trapex, as an integral part of Foster+Partners.
Stelton is an innovative Danish design house best known for its timeless Scandinavian design philosophy. The company has worked with several designers over the decades to produce a wide range of tableware and lifestyle accessories.
