Mecanoo nominated for Public Building Architect of the Year

Mecanoo is one of six offices shortlisted for the 2014 Public Building Architect of the Year Award. Organised by Building Design, the Architect of the Year Awards honour overall achievement within a particular sector. Judged by a panel of industry experts, the award recognises a practice’s body of work, rather than one particular building.

Mecanoo’s track record for Public Buildings includes the Library of Birmingham, Kaap Skil museum on Texel island in the Netherlands, HOME in Manchester, Wei-Wu-Ying Center for the Performing Arts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan and upcoming projects like the redevelopment of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library in Washington, DC.

The other practices shortlisted for this award are: Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, Ryder, Purcell, Haworth Tompkins and Adam Richards Architects. The awards ceremony will take place on 2nd of December in London.

BD’s annual celebration of great architecture.

Now one of the UK’s largest gatherings of architects, the Architect of the Year Awards return for its 11th year. The awards reward the practices responsible for the best overall body of work in 13 different categories.
