The Museum of the History of Polish Jews won the first Finlandia Prize for Architecture, attributed by the Finnish Association of Architects. Situated in Warsaw’s Second World War ghetto area, the museum was designed and realised by the Finnish team Lahdelma & Mahlamäki. The prize was received by the head of the museum’s design team, Professeur Rainer Mahlamäki, during a ceremony on 4 November, at the Helsinki Music Centre.
The project was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, the Jewish Historical Institute and the City of Warsaw. The Association of Polish Architects recognised the museum building with two awards: the SARP Award of the Year and the Award for the Best Architectural Object Built Using Public Funds under the honorary patronage of the president of the Republic of Poland.
