C.F. Møller and Dronninga Landscape have presented a study for the urban development of the Norwegian town of Nodeland, with a focus on green infrastructure, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, short distances and new qualitative parks and promenades along the river Sygna.

The river and water are the characteristic of the landscape, forming a blue-green structure through Nodeland: "The meandering town", developed along Sygnas characteristic river bends. By densifying the city on the east bank of Sygna, within a walking distance of 1 km from the railway station, a manageable railway town is created, where it is natural to walk and cycle.

Nodelands urban centre is densified from the inside and out, with the "heart" at the railway station / station square and Hauge park. Commercial spaces are concentrated in the centre, where shops, events, activities, sports and attractive meeting places are located. New sinuous residential neighborhoods follow the river bends, forming a characteristic meandering layout.

The sidewalks lining the main high streets are widened, and a universally accessible network of paths for pedestrians and cyclists invites to an activelife. A new path, the "Shortcut", creates a green and secure connection through the open courtyards in thecity center, and along the river a new promenade designed as an elongated park features free use of urban kayaks. The river promenade and the shortcut link together all of Nodeland’s squares, parks and public spaces.

Fully developed, the 30 hectare plan provides more than 2,000 new homes in the center of Nodeland, for over 3,500 new residents. The study was conducted for the Municipality of Songdalen, by a team consisting of C.F. Møller Architects, Dronninga landscape, the engineering company Høyer Finseth and Vista Analysis.
