DOSIS, a Spanish architecture practice, designed a giant pneumatic living structure to create a workspace for Second Home's local activities and events in London's East Park. Named Second Dome, this mega yellow-coloured bubble will be inflated in London Fields in East London tomorrow to host free community events for local families and children. The events have been organised by the not-for-profit organisation Shuffle, and include animation workshops, film screenings, pinata-designing and science experiments.

This free day of activities in London Fields is part of Second Home’s commitment to supporting local communities and civic spaces. Second Dome is a reconfigurable space that can transform within minutes from a single 65 square meters bubble to a multi-room structure with over 400 square meters and 8 meters high.

No other type of structure can be assembled so quickly and also have the capacity to span large areas with a thickness of less than a millimeter. It is a technologic artefact that automatically responds to wind and pressure and that needs extremely low quantities of energy for fabrication and assembly.

Second Dome was commissioned for Founders Forum 2016, Europe's leading business and technology event to house a series of high-profile events including an exclusive talk on design and innovation with architect David Adjaye and iPod co-creator and Nest founder Tony Fadell.

"Second Home is all about making our cities more creative, innovative and entrepreneurial. That's why we've commissioned this pneumatic structure, which we’ll be taking to different places in the city, including London Fields in East London on 1 October,'' said Rohan Silva, Second Home co-founder.

"Second Dome is such a playful space - and shows how our urban areas can fire our imagination, and can make it possible for people to come together in new ways,'' added Sam Aldenton, Second Home co-founder.

DOSIS, led by architects Isabel Collado and Ignacio Peydro, is a laboratory of creative processes founded by Isabel Collado and Ignacio Peydro that is committed to pushing the boundaries of the built environment with innovative architectural solutions.
