Jony Ive and Marc Newson will design Claridge’s 2016 Christmas Tree

The Claridge’s Christmas Tree has long been a festive Mayfair landmark, drawing visitors and Londoners alike to marvel at its magnificent and ever-changing design. The Claridge's also reveals its Christmas Tree archive to explore the most fantastic Claridge's Christmas Tree designs through the years.

The Claridge Hotel has announced that this year's Claridge's Christmas Tree will be designed by long-time friends of the hotel, Sir Jony Ive, Chief Design Officer at Apple, and Marc Newson, one of the world’s most influential industrial designers. The tree will be unveiled in Claridge’s lobby on Friday, November 18, 2016.

The Claridge’s Christmas Tree has long been a seasonal landmark and symbolises the start of the festive season in the capital, drawing visitors and Londoners alike to admire its creative design. This is the seventh year that Claridge’s has invited a favourite guest to reinterpret the tree in their own distinctive style.

Commenting on the collaboration Paul Jackson, Claridge’s General Manager said “Christmas has always been a truly special time of year at Claridge’s and we are delighted to welcome our friends Jony and Marc to spread their legendary creative magic this year. We truly believe their innovative spirit and ground-breaking approach will make this year’s annual tradition one to remember for our guests.”

In 2015, British fashion designer Christopher Bailey, CEO of Burberry, designed Claridge’s Christmas Tree by using over 100 umbrellas, each finished in bespoke gold and silver metallic fabric, and thousands of motion-sensor lights, programmed to sparkle and glitter as guests walked by the tree. With London being at the heart of both Claridge’s and Burberry, the 2015 Claridge's Christmas Tree was a true celebration of the two brands' shared British heritage.
