BIG has just released new residential development for Toronto, proposing a 'pixelated' pattern for the new communities. The new high-dense residential units will be the third development of BIG in North America, expanding to the downtown Toronto after Vancouver House and Telus Sky Tower. BIG's new design is located in the entertainment district of King Street West. Developed by Westbank and Allied Properties, the design includes more than 500 apartment units, covering 67.35471 m2. Even though it has no any specific name of the project, this complex and multi-storey units create an emblematic form on this site.
These stacks of units, reaching to between 15 and 17 storeys, also differentiate the plans of the units for various apartments rather than typical repeating apartment plan schemes. Several units contain private terraces that diminishes the bulky and dense appearance of the structure. The facade configuration and materials are carefully modulated in the building, referring to the heritage of the site. In BIG's scheme, the residents will be able to access to the building with various pathways, which makes the building more visible, accessible and public as well.
More information about the project coming soon..
